This stage will start from Valdengo (Biella), starting point of the Giro even in 2014. The first 150 km are completely flat with the usual city center pitfalls (roundabouts, traffic divider etc).

This could be a pitfall stage thanks to the last kilometers, with the climbs of Miragolo San Salvatore (new climb for the Giro) and Selvino (last GPM here were in 1995 and saw the success of Tony Rominger). Leaving Selvino the roads follows a long descent with bends and then the last 9 kilometers approaching finish line.

Last kilometers pass through Bergamo Alta, climbing to Porta Garibaldi and then, after 200m in cobbled area, to Largo Aperto.

Cycling fans will surely remember these roads that in the last years have been the finish line for the Tour of Lombardia. Last year italian Diego Rosa missed a great chance for being anticipated by Chavez, demonstrating that this is an arrival for classification riders. This could be a suitable stage for riders like Vincenzo Nibali.
