WHERE DO WE START? THE FTP TEST
FTP is the power that a person can achieve and maintain for an hour of exercise without accumulating lactic acid.
The FTP test allows you to know the level of training of a cyclist with a test carried out in real conditions (but you can also carry out indoors with magnetic rollers).
Testing your bike, in real-world conditions, when and as many times as you want, is undoubtedly a great advantage.
There is a strong correlation between VO2max (maximum oxygen consumption) and the lactacid threshold. The higher the VO2max, the higher the load at which the lactate begins to accumulate. In fact, physiologists have found that the intensity of exercise at which the lactate begins to accumulate in the blood turns out to be an important marker of the level of training to the endurance of an athlete.
Thanks to the advent of power meters, an athlete can carry out a test on his own and easily.
FTP is the average power maintained in an hour of effort at the intensity of the lactate threshold (LT).
For simplicity, the test run time was reduced to 8′ or 20′. Preparations are needed, what is called heating, to get ready for the test.
