TIM COOK: CYCLING IS TECHNOLOGY! AND SPH IS ALREADY THERE

TIM COOK: CYCLING IS TECHNOLOGY! AND SPH IS ALREADY THERE

A few days ago, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has tweeted talking about technology in the world of cycling, which is now close to F1. They are used by almost all World Tour teams and they benefit greatly from them. What’s this about? Real-time data transmission during races, evaluation of the athlete’s parameters, heartbeats and expressed power and post-race analysis. Sometimes it is enough to have these details to preserve an athlete during a stage. “His beats don’t go up, he’s tired”, or “He’s not releasing all his power, we’re undercover”. Just as the exact opposite happens, “He’s fine, and we’ll send him on the attack”. Transmission is via SIM card […]

SLONGO: 10 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS EVOLUTION

SLONGO: 10 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS EVOLUTION

(The coaches Paolo Artuso and Paolo Slongo. @nokia_mobile and @sportplushealth @team Bahrain Merida) CAMBRILS (SPA): Meeting Paolo Slongo is just like bumping into an old friend. Patient, never moody, willing to debate with you frankly.  He seems so far away from the stereotype of a coach who is only interested in the numbers. Instead, he is the kind of person aiming for moderating tensions, strengthened by his own high-level experience and by a placid behaviour. During the training camp in Cambrils, Catalunia, he spared part of the morning for us. The boys of the Bahrain Merida Team worked hard  in a 6-hours long ride. We find Franco Pellizzotti and Gorazd […]

TRAINING: DOING IT WRONG WITHOUT REALIZING IT

TRAINING: DOING IT WRONG WITHOUT REALIZING IT

Sometimes in life, and in cycling, it happens that you don’t feel good enough anymore. A method that was giving great results until that moment becomes unsatisfying, old. This is a common situation for amateur racers who are used to train autonomously and at a certain point they got beat by athletes previously slower than them. The answer is obvious: What happens? This is the moment in which you understand that the others started to train in a more modern and efficient way, maybe even with an athletic director. What are the practical differences? Is everyone just training more? We asked these questions to Giovanni Gilberti, a professional trainer who […]

WATT .. NOBODY LIKE MARCO PANTANI

WATT .. NOBODY LIKE MARCO PANTANI

Watts: if you are a cyclist you will surely have heard of it. Trainers, riders and experts are more and more interested in this parameter. Scanned, analyzed and compared much more than speed, are an indicator of the physical form of a rider.  In a sport where the suspicion of doping is always latent, the power can be used to authenticate the athlete’s performance. Let’s see some interesting consideration. The watt is nothing more than a unit that measures power. This is the same unit used to quantify the power of a light bulb or a refrigerator. On the bike, power is the amount of energy provided by the cyclist […]

BICYCLE: WHERE TO START? THE FIRST STEP IS ABOUT THE POSITION IN THE SADDLE

BICYCLE: WHERE TO START? THE FIRST STEP IS ABOUT THE POSITION IN THE SADDLE

An ultralight bike nourishes everyone’s dreams; even more if it is one of those ridden by champions. When it is time to choose, it is very easy to get carried away by emotions and make a decision based on instinct more than on good sense. Riding a bike, especially when it becomes a passion that absorbs you several hours a week, does require the machine to suit you from the point of view of its fit, i.e. how well it is tailored to you. Like a tailored suit that is made to fit individual customers, a bike needs to be appropriate in terms of its proportions too. Sometimes, even better […]

DO YOU HAVE VERY LITTLE TIME TO TRAIN? HERE’S AN IDEA FOR YOU

DO YOU HAVE VERY LITTLE TIME TO TRAIN? HERE’S AN IDEA FOR YOU

Late January is when many cycling enthusiasts start to ride again.   The return to the activity, as Davide Martinelli has already explained, is very challenging, for several reasons. During the winter months our body gets out of the habit of enduring efforts, especially if we have not kept active practising aerobic alternatives.   Enduring large training loads or many hours in the saddle is no longer possible. We need to recondition our body to the efforts. In order not to jeopardize the body’s biological equilibrium, we should try to avoid over-revving, or sustaining maximal efforts that could be counterproductive. It is always better to tackle rides with lengths that […]

WHICH PREPARATION TO PREFER WHEN NOT ON THE BIKE?

WHICH PREPARATION TO PREFER WHEN NOT ON THE BIKE?

Cycling lovers ask themselves: Which preparation helps most? But above all … the weights are good for the cyclist? During the transition periods and especially at the beginning of the preparation season the cyclist is dedicated to alternative activities, and this happens for both the professional and the amateur. They works to solve any problems highlighted during the previous season and above all to reinforce all the muscles not involved directly in pedaling. Depending on the time available we will devote ourselves to 2 workouts a week in the gym, 1-2 weekly workouts on the bike trainer and 2 bike rides in the weekend. As for the pure roadsters in […]

Opening the way? With high Watts. Words of a coach.

Opening the way? With high Watts. Words of a coach.

The analysis by coach Paolo Marchetti. Analyzing the file from Davide Martinelli, regarding the 6th stage of the Tour of Guangxi, the last event of the season, we see a 168 km track at an average speed of 44 kmh. A very fast stage with an high cadence even if this is the last seasonal effort. The total distance has been covered in 3 hours and 47 minutes. In the last part of the stage we can see a number of fast rythm variations, very complex to manage. These continued until the moment when our athlete took the control of the race with a progression of more than 1100 Watt which hits the group and allows […]
