Lukas Flückiger and Martin Fanger will be wearing their Swiss National Team jerseys this Sunday for the UCI MTB Marathon World Championships that will take place in Laissac, France.
The two Swiss riders decided to kick the second half of their season off with a long distance race. 90km and 3’130m of elevation are awaiting them and the other 151 riders registered for the most important Marathon MTB race of the season. Even if Marathon isn’t their favorite discipline, both riders consider it as a great complement to their usual practice. “It always gave me good power for the cross-country Olympic races” explained Flückiger who has found renewed motivation through selection for this event.
“Following a very bad start to the season which lead to disappointingly not being selected for the Olympic Games, I needed to do something a bit different to motivate myself and get back on track for the rest of the season. There are still important races to come like the World Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave and three World Cup races.” Although not an ultimate goal, Flückiger is keen to do well in France: “If I am having a good day, I know I can fight at the front. I am definitely going there for a medal.”
Martin Fanger is also ready for a good performance there: “I hope for an exciting race there and plan to be part of the excitement!”
