From dusk until dawn on the track for the 12H Cycling Marathon
The Italian Formula One temple invaded by bicycles for two days. It will happen at the Monza circuit, from 10am of Saturday June 27 to 6pm of Sunday June 28, when the historic track will be open to all cyclists, from amateurs to agonists. For the latter, but only for those who can resist fatigue, there is the opportunity to engage in a real challenge, the 12H Cycling Marathon, from dusk until dawn riding all night non-stop on the 5,793 meters of the circuit.
Certainly a picturesque event, with all the charm of a night race under a moon that, in late June, will be nearly full.
A competition open to both professionals and amateurs who can run at their pace. You can participate in this adventure on the pedals alone or in teams of 2, 4 or 8 (male, female or mixed), sharing the experience with your friends. Moreover the lovers of single speed bikes will be able to participate with a fixed gear bike entering a dedicated ranking.
We will award the winners of each category, individual, team, male, female, mixed and best lap.
Each competitor will have its own number and he/she will receive a microchip for timekeeping.
The ranking will be announced live on the scoreboard in the finish area and box.
Inside the circuit it will be also created a Bike Village where you can try new models of bikes on the track and workshops on sports nutrition, training methods and road safety. For teens and children there will be a dedicated area with a mini circuit just for them. All this without forgetting that the circuit is in the park of Monza, with the opportunity to visit the Villa Reale and its gardens.
Andrea Massimello, director of the event, tells how the idea of a 12 hour cycling at night is born after meeting various people, “with Linus and Aldo Rock from Radio Deejay we managed to make a dream come true (…) we have decided to run at night both to make this challenge more exciting, and for riding with an optimum temperature, avoiding the hot summer asphalt. Running should be a pleasure, not a pain. “Bike like a deejay”: for us it will be an exciting journey from dusk until dawn. ”
“The track, at night, in complete darkness, except for the light of your bike and the full moon. These seem to me, ” says Massimello, ” interesting ingredients to which it must be added the emotional component of being “in the temple of speed.” The goal is to get on the famous podium where we see every year to reward the great champions of Formula 1 “.
